We also supply a range of products to repel, deter or prevent a moth problem.

The most common moth problems are with:

Carpet Moths or Variegated Carpet Beetles whose larvae are known as Wooly Bears. It is the larval stage of carpet bugs that like to eat away at carpets and rugs made of wool.

These insect pests live outdoors in birds nests and on dead animals but they can find their way into a property through open windows, doors or they can come in under the eaves or down the chimney. Once indoors they can breed rapidly with the female carpet moth laying hundreds of eggs in dark out of the way places such as under cupboards or under heavy, immovable furniture. The eggs then turn into larvae that spin silken cocoons around themselves. These larvae resemble grains of rice and it is this stage of the carpet moth that does the damage eating away at carpets and rugs made of natural fibres such as wool. If you have seen moths flying around and have found the larvae of this insect pest, you should inspect all rooms of your property to gauge the size of the infestation and then carry out a full pest control treatment. Please see our category Carpet Moth Control to the right.

Stored Food Product Moths. These moths are often found in bags of flour, pasta or other dried food stuffs stored in household or catering kitchen cupboards.

The most common food moths are Indian Meal Moth [ Plodia interpunctella ], Warehouse Moth [ Ephestia elutella ], Tropical Warehouse Moth [ Ephestia cautella ] and Mediterranean Flour Moth [ Ephestia kuehniella ]. Stored Food Product Moths can be brought into the home or business already being inside dry foodstuffs or the moths may have found their way into the kitchen and have laid eggs in old, out of date dry foodstuffs. If you have seen moths flying around in your kitchen or you have seen the eggs or larvae which spin webs in bags of flour etc., you should carry out a full pest control treatment. Please see our category Food Moth Control to the right.

Common Brown House Moths are a problem as they can cause damage to fabrics such as wool found in carpets and clothes as well as infecting food products, therefore they are a general nuisance within the home or business.

These moths are sometimes called secondary carpet moths, secondary clothes moths or secondary stored food product moths as they can eat a wide range of items within the home or business. The life cycle of the Common Brown House Moth closely mimics that of the other moths and if you have seen moths flying around in your home or business you should try to locate where they have laid their eggs and in how many rooms there is a problem and then carry out a full pest control treatment.
